Democratic Montenegro stated that the European Union's announcement about the alleged fuel consumption of Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Zdenka Popović is "a pale attempt to divert attention from the latest revealed misconduct of one of their high-ranking officials."
The Democrats claim that Social Democrat (SD) MP Branislav Nenezić "misused the municipal electric vehicle, misleading the parliamentary service, and took a measly 30,9 euros for fuel costs, reporting a fuel-consuming vehicle instead of an electric vehicle."
"Instead of facing the facts and taking responsibility for their own actions, including returning the expensive municipal vehicle, they have opted for their well-known backdoor strategy, which will consist of attacking one woman, Zdenko Popović, using her as a cover to justify, equalize, or conceal their own affair. This attack is not only very hypocritical, but also represents a continuation of a desperate practice that has been going on for years, carried out by Ivan's and Damir's pioneers," the Democrats said.
They were reacting to allegations by the European Union, of which SD is a part, that at the beginning of the month, "information about the problematic fuel consumption of Deputy Speaker of Parliament Zdenka Popović went completely unnoticed by the public."
"Citizens still remember the 'golden age' of their political mentor Ivan Brajović, during whose term it was found that 200 thousand euros disappeared from the parliamentary coffers. His students, it seems, have not forgotten their craft, but due to their opposition position, they have remained limited to minor embezzlement. Today, as the opposition, they have managed to disgrace themselves for a measly 30,9 euros. Imagine, respected citizens, what would happen if they were in power at the state level - those 30 euros would quickly become 30 million."
Democrats urged citizens "to remain vigilant and not allow themselves to be fooled by such cheap political tricks."
"The Democrats will continue to work transparently in the interest of citizens, and not to cover up scandals and abuses, as representatives of the Social Democrats have been doing for years. There will certainly be scandals in which the Social Democrats are directly involved in the coming period. We advise the Social Democrats, excuse me, the European Union, to at least not embarrass themselves like this anymore, and to ask for those 30 euros a second time either from their older, wealthy mentors Ivan and Damir or from Aco Mijalović and Ljubo Milović. They deserved that much, we are truly sure of that," the reaction concludes.
