The Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) has confirmed that it will hold its party congress on February 16th.
The 25th Congress of the DPS was scheduled for January 16th, but was postponed due to the tragedy in Cetinje. Last month, "Vijesti" was unofficially told by the DPS that it should be held on February XNUMXth.
DPS Vice President Abaz Dizdarević and the party's Secretary General Aleksandar Bogdanović spoke at a DPS forum in Plav yesterday, as part of the campaign for the upcoming Congress. On that occasion, it was said that Plav is "an example of how European and civic government changes a city for the better and makes it a better place for its residents to live."
Dizdarević said that DPS is the "backbone of civic Montenegro" which "has shown during its time in power that it has the statesmanlike knowledge to govern the country in the most difficult times and to preserve peace and interfaith harmony, but also to develop the country and catch up with modern European countries."
"We have shown that we know how to do it and that is why we have prepared a superior Program for the upcoming Congress. The first point of the program concerns the defense of state dignity and multiethnic and multireligious harmony, and the second program point encompasses our vision of economic development and how to improve the lives of the citizens of Montenegro."
He added that in order to have a chance to implement the "ambitious Program", they must "continue to strengthen the rating" of DPS, "as was the case last year", and that this requires dedicated and daily work.
"We must shorten this period of Montenegro's decline and ensure that our country gains a responsible and knowledgeable government as soon as possible," said Dizdarević, as announced by the DPS.
Bogdanović said that Plav "knows what fighting for dignity means," which is one of the main motives of the slogan of the upcoming DPS Congress.
"You know what honest work, sacrifice, and fighting for the future of your children mean. And you know that Montenegro can and must be better! That is why we are clearly sending out a message that it is our obligation to stop this government and return the country to the path of security, stability, and development."
Bogdanović, commenting on the DPS Program, said that Montenegro's economy must be based on work, knowledge and investments, "and not on populism and irresponsible policies."
It was added that DPS has never divided people by faith, nation, or religion and that they have "always remained consistent with the idea of a civic, multiethnic, and multiconfessional Montenegro": "Because, as the proverb says: When a house is united, not even the wind can destroy it."
Bogdanović said that DPS is "a force that protects, does not allow the foundations of our state house to be destroyed" and that because of this, they are welcoming the upcoming DPS Congress on February 16th "stronger, more determined and more prepared than ever". "It is time for Montenegro to once again be the state that all its citizens deserve - dignified, stable and European".
