Montenegro's progress in implementing reforms is recognized, and the United States of America (USA) will continue to be a strong supporter of Montenegro in its efforts to become a full member of the European Union (EU).
This was assessed at a meeting between Foreign Minister Ervin Ibrahimović and US Congresswoman Claudia Tenney in Washington.
The statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that Teni stressed that the US values its partnership with Montenegro and will continue to support the country's European path.
"Deeming the progress in implementing reforms positive, she said that the US will continue to be a strong support for Montenegro in its efforts to become a full member of the EU," the statement said.
Ibrahimović emphasized that the alliance between Montenegro and the USA within NATO has special value in the context of changed security circumstances.
He recalled that Montenegro fully aligns its foreign policy with the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union (EU), emphasizing that Montenegro stands firmly with its allies in preserving the rules-based international order.
As announced, at a separate meeting between Ibrahimović and Senator Jeanne Sahin, the strong commitment of both sides to deepening cooperation and partnership was confirmed.
Ibrahimović thanked Šahin for his continued engagement and support for Montenegro, emphasizing that he appreciates the efforts and contribution to strengthening overall ties between the two countries.
Sahin reiterated the US's support for Montenegro's European perspective, emphasizing the importance of continuing reforms and meeting the criteria for EU membership.
"The interlocutors expressed satisfaction with the bilateral cooperation that is continuously developing at all levels, emphasizing that the two countries also cooperate closely on the multilateral level," the statement said.
It is added that Ibrahimović and Šahin also discussed other issues important for improving relations between the two countries, as well as current geopolitical challenges in the region and the world.
As announced, during Ibrahimović's meetings with Teni and Šahin, it was concluded that relations between Montenegro and the USA are friendly and substantive, with significant potential for their upgrading through further strengthening of political dialogue and improvement of partnership cooperation in areas of common interest.
