The decision of the Election and Appointment Committee of the Budva Municipal Assembly to award the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) the position of secretary and one member of the Municipal Election Commission (MEC) represents a gross violation of political integrity and a clear manipulation of democracy, said the vice president of the Democrats, Dragana Kažanegra Stanišić.
"DPS's attempt to falsely present itself as the opposition in order to grab yet another position in the OIK shows their willingness to distort political reality for the sake of preserving power. If DPS is not part of the government, then a simple question arises: who elected them in Budva? Which councilors voted for the government in which they participate? You cannot be the government when positions are distributed, and the opposition when members of the OIK are elected. This is a deception of citizens and political hypocrisy of the worst kind," she pointed out.
If DPS can be both the government and the opposition at the same time in Budva, Kažanegra Stanišić called on the parliamentary majority at the state level to apply an identical model in all cities in Montenegro.
"If DPS can do this in Budva, then it can do it in any other city. I call on all parliamentary parties at the state level not to tolerate this scandalous precedent, but to approach all local governments in the same way. If they want a political game of manipulation, then they will get it even where it does not suit them. The citizens of Budva and Montenegro deserve fairness and consistency, not political games that degrade institutions and the electoral will of the people," concludes Kažanegra Stanišić.
