PES does not support convening a session of the old Kotor Municipal Assembly

The Europe Now Movement (PES) announced that it does not support convening a session of the old Kotor Municipal Assembly.

"The announced session of the Kotor Municipal Assembly, at which the mayor would be elected by councilors whose mandates have expired, would represent an act of further collapse of the political system, after the unprecedented lawlessness that was applied in Šavnik. Unlike Šavnik, the background of the crisis is somewhat different, although the culprit is the same, but as in Šavnik, it manifests itself because the competent institutions do not want to exercise their powers in accordance with the Constitution. However, although the culprits are the same and the institutions are equally dysfunctional, it is undeniable that holding the Kotor Municipal Assembly in this way would further degrade the democratic processes in the country, so we call on all political entities to refrain from such actions," PES announced.

They said that the party's attitude in these situations is principled.

"We do not support lawlessness and violation of the constitutional and legal order, which is our conscious choice as a political entity fighting to improve the concept of the rule of law in Montenegro. On the other hand, the Constitutional Court, in whose hands lies the solution to both the Kotor and Šavnica crises, also needs to make a choice - whether it wants to act within its jurisdiction and make decisions on election complaints within reasonable deadlines, or whether it consciously chooses to marginalize itself and declare itself useless for our legal system," the statement reads.
