The Center for Civic Education (CCE) has strongly condemned, as they say, misogynistic attacks on MP Jevrosima Pejović following her proposal to introduce menstrual leave.
"Instead of an argumentative debate on an important health issue, we are witnessing attacks aimed at discrediting and belittling a member of parliament who advocates for the advancement of the rights of employed women," the NGO said.
They found it devastating that, instead of a constructive debate, Pejović was facing insults and ridicule.
"Her initiative is not a whim, but a response to real health problems that women face during their menstrual cycle, which can seriously affect their ability to work," CCE pointed out.
They add that the attacks on Pejović highlight a deep-rooted intolerance towards women who proactively raise socially important issues.
"Instead of discrediting and belittling, it is necessary to have a responsible dialogue about her proposal and its implications.
"We call on the public and decision-makers to condemn misogyny and show solidarity with MP Pejović, because such attacks discourage women from being active in public space and fighting for their own rights and the rights of other social groups," the statement concludes.
