President Jakov Milatović visited Montenegrin soldiers in Bulgaria and told them that Montenegro can be proud of them.
As part of his official visit to Bulgaria, Milatović, together with the President of that country, Rumen Radev, visited Montenegrin soldiers at the NATO base "Novo Selo", where 42 members of the Montenegrin Army serve as part of a multinational battle group under the command of Italy.
The President's Office notes that this is the largest contingent of Montenegrin soldiers deployed outside the borders of Montenegro, and that their contribution to collective security is of great importance.
The two presidents attended an honor parade and an inspection of weapons and military equipment.
Milatović, as announced, "expressed pride in the professionalism and dedication of Montenegrin soldiers," saying that they represent Montenegro with dignity.
"I am pleased to visit the largest contingent of the Montenegrin army outside the borders of Montenegro, this is the fifth contingent of our soldiers who have been present here since 2023. Our presence here is part of the NATO strategy in the context of defense and deterrence, and in this way we additionally demonstrate our commitment to strengthening the eastern wing of the NATO alliance. I am very satisfied with what I saw here, I spoke with our soldiers and told them that Montenegro can be proud of them," said Milatović.
During the visit, the significance of this engagement for the Montenegrin Army was discussed, especially in terms of improving tactical capabilities, interoperability and modernization of the armed forces.
"We have a great friend in Bulgaria"
Milatović assessed the overall official visit to Bulgaria as "very successful".
"We have a truly great friend in Bulgaria. In Sofia, I heard important messages from both the Bulgarian President and Prime Minister, when it comes to Bulgarian support for Montenegro's European path. So, all in all, a significant visit, an important visit and I am sure that in some way we are turning a new page in further improving relations between our countries," concluded President Milatović.
