The Socialist People's Party of Montenegro (SNP) supports the initiative of Parliament Speaker Andrija Mandić and emphasizes that the Serbian language should be the official language in Montenegro.
In an interview with the Belgrade daily "Politika" on Sunday, Mandić said that "the initiative to declare the Serbian language official in the Constitution of Montenegro is an ongoing process," adding that they are now entering the phase of starting a "broad dialogue in all spheres of society."
The SNP told ''Vijesti'' that they believe this is a natural and logical step that reflects the historical, cultural and linguistic reality of our country, as well as the will of a significant portion of citizens.
"Nowhere in the world is there a situation in which the language spoken by the majority of citizens, who have declared themselves so, is not the official language of that state. We believe that it is time to correct this illogicality in Montenegro and introduce the Serbian language as an official language," they stated.
The SNP, as they say, will always respond to any initiative on this issue and make its contribution through dialogue, all in the interest of citizens and the advancement of their rights.
"It will be interesting to see who opposes this position and what arguments they have for it," said the SNP.
