The session of the Capital City Assembly, which was scheduled for today, was postponed due to a lack of quorum.
This was announced by the city parliament.
"We inform you that the fifth session of the Assembly of the Capital City of Podgorica, which was convened for Thursday, March 13, 2025, starting at 10 a.m., is postponed due to lack of quorum. In accordance with Article 65 of the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly of the Capital City, the President of the Assembly of the Capital City, Dr. Jelena Borovinić Bojović, has set the time for the postponed fifth session of the Assembly of the Capital City of Podgorica, for Tuesday, March 18, 2025, starting at 10 a.m.," the statement reads.
Vijesti has received confirmation from multiple sources that not a single opposition councilor or two government councilors attended the session.
The ruling coalition in Podgorica has 31 councilors, and consists of the coalition of Democratic Montenegro and the Europe Now Movement, which has 14 councilors in the local parliament, the coalition "For the Future of Podgorica", which has 13, and the Movement for Podgorica, which has four councilors.
In opposition are the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) with 19 councilors, the European Alliance with three, the Civic Movement URA, the Party of European Progress, and the Turnaround Movement with two mandates each.
Government councilors Miloš Krstović and Mitar Paunović accused the opposition of lacking a quorum.
The head of the parliamentary club of the Movement for Podgorica, Miloš Krstović, announced that the lack of a quorum today is not only an indicator of the political irresponsibility of the DPS, but also an attempt to escape from facing the truth.
"However, the truth cannot be hidden by a boycott, nor will the memory of Duško Jovanović be erased by not appearing in the hall. The erection of the memorial is not only a symbol of remembrance, but also a message that justice must be served. Those who tried to avoid this topic today know very well the reasons why. But the Movement for Podgorica will not give up - we will insist on clarifying all the circumstances of his murder and demand accountability from all those who participated, whether through action or through silence. The majority in the Capital City remains committed not only to this issue, but also to all activities that are in the interest of the citizens of Podgorica," Krstović said in a statement.
The President of the Democratic Montenegro Club of Councilors in the Capital City Assembly, Mitar Paunović, announced that today's absence of the opposition from the session of the Capital City Assembly is shameful and that it is a continuation of the blockade that the opposition is carrying out in the state parliament.
"All their talk about a correct approach and contribution to the interests of Podgorica has fallen into disrepute today. I publicly call on the opposition not to come to the continuation of the session, which will be held in the coming days, when all majority councilors will be present. If they do not want to have a dialogue with us 29 today, there is no need for them to pretend to be constructive, looking through the buffet windows to see if they can somehow jeopardize the quorum. European and Podgorica, it doesn't matter," Paunović stressed in a statement.
