The Socialist People's Party (SNP) has expressed concern about what they said were the possible consequences of the arrest of the president of the Bosnian entity of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik.
In a statement, they said that the act "could have an impact on stability and peace in the region."
On March 12, the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) issued an order to the judicial police to detain President Dodik, Prime Minister Radovan Višković, and the Speaker of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska, Nenad Stevandić, charging them with committing the criminal offense of "attack on the constitutional order."
"We believe that political processes must be conducted through dialogue, on the principles of democracy, and not through moves that further deepen divisions and tensions. The announced arrest and detention of a legally elected representative of the people cannot contribute to resolving open political issues, but only increases uncertainty and insecurity. Therefore, we call on all political actors to exercise restraint, responsibility and respect for international legal norms, in order to avoid further tensions and to preserve the security and dignity of all peoples in the region," the SNP said.
