The opposition in Šavnik, in protest against the re-election of Jugoslav Jakić (DPS) as mayor, blocked the Šavnik-Žabljak road today.
As of today, the blockade of the aforementioned road will last for two and a half hours, instead of the previous two hours. Thus, the blockade of the aforementioned road will be from 12:14,30 to XNUMX:XNUMX, as of the new decision.
Yesterday, as a sign of support, they were joined by a member of the SNP presidency and vice president of the Municipality of Kolašin, Miodrag Bulatović.
The blockade is organized by the coalitions "For the Future of Šavnik" (NSD, SNP, DNP) and "Let's Go People" (DCG, UCG, PES). They began blocking the aforementioned main road on February 27th.
Yesterday, they sent a letter to the presidents of the state, parliament and government, Jakov Milatović, Andrija Mandić and Milojko Spajić, asking them to meet for a conversation and try to find a solution to the Šavnik crisis.
"The election process in Šavnik began in October 2022 and has not been completed to this day. The municipality is still governed by the "bodies" constituted in the 2018 local elections. This is an unprecedented case in Europe, and probably in third world countries as well. The municipality of Šavnik is de facto governed and decisions are made by a group of citizens without any legitimacy, which can lead to unforeseeable consequences for the functioning of the municipality itself and the survival of the residents living in Šavnik.
We have previously initiated and appealed to state authorities at the central level on several occasions to resolve the electoral crisis in Šavnik, but apart from transferring responsibility from the legislative to the executive branch and vice versa, there have been no concrete steps or measures.
"Taking into account all of the above, we propose to organize a joint meeting of the Parliament of Montenegro, Mr. Milojko Spajić, Prime Minister of Montenegro, and Jakov Milatović, President of Montenegro, with representatives of the coalitions "For the Future of Šavnika" and "Let's Go, People", in order to consider the possibilities for resolving the electoral crisis and possibly lead to an acceptable and legal solution," the letter to Mandić states.
The Speaker of the Parliament appealed to the authorities to introduce compulsory administration in Šavnik or to enable voting at two polling stations. He said, at the session of the first regular spring session of the Parliament, that the citizens of Šavnik have been protesting for 20 days because the government in that municipality is not functioning in accordance with the Constitution and the laws of the state.
Support for the Šavnik opposition was previously provided by the president of the Socialist People's Party (SNP), Vladimir Joković, who said that the fact that in Šavnik one mandate is worth about 40 votes, and that there are 380 more voters on their electoral roll than the municipality has residents, speaks volumes about the extent of electoral engineering, and that the "DPS manipulations" continued with the re-election of Jakić.
By the votes of councilors from the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) and the Social Democrats (SD), who attended the zoom meeting, Jakić was elected as the new/old president of the Municipality of Šavnik on February 19.
After his re-election, Jakić told reporters that, according to the law, councilors' mandates last until new ones are elected.
