The honorary president of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), Milo Ðukanović, said that it is absolutely untrue that he still leads the party.
According to a statement from the DPS, he also said that these "falsehoods are being spread from the headquarters of Greater Serbian nationalism - the BIA".
"With this fabrication about the allegedly unreformed DPS, they are mobilizing their servants in Montenegro to cooperate with each other, scaring them with the return of our party to power. And they are right to be afraid. We are unpleasant witnesses to the betrayal and greed of many 'liberators' who believed that the anti-Montenegrin and anti-civilizational hysteria would last forever. The end is in sight. I do not need any titles - neither president nor honorary president. I am a resident of Nikšić and a citizen of Montenegro and that is my greatest satisfaction. If 30 years in power were not enough for me - I am gone. However, whoever is elementary responsible towards the state and their descendants has no right to sit idly by in times like these," said Ðukanović.
He said that he was proud of the new generation in DPS, in whose formation he participated from day one.
"Because they do not trade with Montenegro and because they believe and know that the only sustainable formula for the eternal continuation of our statehood is a civic and European Montenegro. And believe me when I tell you, today's generation of DPS would be able to lead a much larger and more demanding state than Montenegro."
As announced by the DPS, speaking about the subterfuge and labeling by political competitors, Ðukanović said that five years have passed since the change of government and there is still no verdict against any DPS official:
"Where are the verdicts? They still only boast about indictments, but they are becoming less and less convincing and are starting to fall before the courts like a house of cards. The instigators of this revenge-mongering campaign would not need any other indictment if they could find a basis to raise the most important one for them, against me. Because I have a mortal sin in their eyes, not because I am a thief, a mafia member or a criminal, but because I was at the head of the politics that restored independent Montenegro. That is my 'mortal sin' that I carry very proudly. And which I will defend until my last breath. And that is why I am here, because that value has been under attack for five years now. And that is why I want to tell you, not in five, but in 105 years, I cannot find, not even a shred of what they loudly announced politically. Simply because it did not exist. And it will not take us longer than five days, when we soon send them into opposition, to show what the 'liberators' did afterwards August 30, 2020."
Speaking about the upcoming elections in Nikšić, Đukanović said that it is very important "that not a single vote for a civic and European Montenegro is wasted."
"Let's vote for those for whom we are sure that it will be an effective vote, a vote that will contribute to the change of government in Nikšić and a vote that will contribute to the restoration of stability and dynamic development of Montenegro. Whenever Nikšić was strong, a solid support for Montenegrin freedom, Montenegrin anti-fascism, Montenegrin culture, Montenegro was strong. We have always been inspired by the strength, energy, enthusiasm and readiness to take responsibility for all the major challenges facing the state. That is why we must make Nikšić strong and stable so that Montenegro can become stable and prosperous again. With the victory in Nikšić on April 13, after the clear dominance in the recent elections in Podgorica, there is no defense against the demands to hold early parliamentary elections. And in those elections it is clear what the outcome will be," said Đukanović
The leader of the "Fight for Nikšić" list, Boris Muratović, is confident of a convincing victory in the local elections and "certain political changes after April 13th."
"All the places we visited and all the halls were too small to accommodate all those interested who wanted to talk about the future of Nikšić. On the other hand, they have a problem scheduling a single meeting because the citizens have seen through their intentions and capacities for these four years. They promised hills and valleys, they promised factories, and we have seen none of that. These are people without school, with purchased diplomas, without creativity, without ideas, without love for this city and this country. They have shown that some other countries are closer to their hearts and want to shape our destiny, and not only for us but also for future generations. Well, they won't be able to! Those who report to Milica Zavetnica and those who are puppets of Andrija Mandić and Aleksandar Vučić will not be able to govern Nikšić. Their end has come and they know that they will be convincingly defeated on April 13. However, on April 13, we don't just need a victory - we need a convincing victory to send them into political history forever," said Muratović.
