Spajić sent a letter to the Venice Commission

Prime Minister Milojko Spajić has sent a request to the Venice Commission for an urgent opinion with recommendations regarding the termination of the office of Judge of the Constitutional Court of Montenegro, Dragana Đuranović.

As announced by Spajić's office, he sent the letter to the European Commission for Democracy through Law in accordance with the Agreement between representatives of the ruling majority and representatives of the opposition in the Montenegrin parliament.

The agreement, as they recalled, was signed by Spajić and representatives of the Democratic Party of Socialists, the European Alliance and the Croatian Civic Initiative, Danijel Živković, Damir Šehović and Adrijan Vuksanović.

In his letter, Spajić asked the Venice Commission, in accordance with its competences, to answer questions from representatives of the government and the opposition.

The statement states that the letter, bearing in mind that representatives of the government and the opposition have several doubts regarding this constitutional and legal issue, lists the issues and key arguments of both the government and the opposition.

"Additional documentation will be submitted to the Venice Commission at a later date, which may help create a complete picture of the issues of interpreting the aforementioned norms in both material and formal terms," ​​the statement said.

It is added that, in addition to answering the questions, the signatory parties to the Agreement ask the Venice Commission to make recommendations in order to resolve any potential dilemmas that exist in the constitutional and legal system of Montenegro regarding this issue.
