Montenegro and Bulgaria cherish exceptionally good and friendly relations, and Podgorica, as the capital, wants to further improve them at the local level, said the Mayor of Podgorica, Saša Mujović, at today's meeting with the Ambassador of Bulgaria to Montenegro, Stefan Dimitrov.
As announced by the Capital, they discussed further directions for the development of bilateral relations between the two countries, with special emphasis on strengthening economic and cultural cooperation, as well as promotion through sports.
"Deepening cooperation in various sectors is very important and I am confident that we will very soon put certain ideas we discussed today into practice," said Mujović.
Dimitrov emphasized Bulgaria's readiness to support the further development of what has been, according to the statement, a very successful cooperation.
"In May this year, Bulgaria will be the guest of honor at the Book and Education Fair in Podgorica, where we will have a truly diverse program as part of the Days of Bulgarian Culture event. Events like this represent an excellent opportunity to develop friendship between peoples and get to know each other through culture," the Bulgarian ambassador said.
As reported by the Capital, the meeting also discussed specific initiatives that would significantly improve cultural ties, such as naming certain streets or unveiling a bust of Ivan Vazov - one of the most significant Bulgarian writers and academics, who dedicated one poem from his rich opus to Montenegro.
In addition, there was talk of Bulgaria's support for projects aimed at children, improving infrastructure and developing cities, which has a cooperation program with cities in Montenegro.
The interlocutors concluded that certain ideas and plans have been set on a solid foundation, and that both sides will give their full contribution to their successful implementation in the coming period, the Capital City's statement concluded.
