The opening of the Embassy of Montenegro in Bern will contribute to the strengthening of political and economic ties with Switzerland, it was announced at the meeting of Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović with the Ambassador of Switzerland to Podgorica on a non-residential basis, Anne Lugon Moulin.
As announced by Ivanovic's office, during the meeting, both sides emphasized their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations between Montenegro and Switzerland.
Ivanovic thanked Switzerland for its continued support for Montenegro's foreign policy priorities, especially in the context of European integration and regional development.
Lugon Mulan reportedly praised Montenegro's reform efforts and its progress on the path to membership in the European Union.
"The meeting was an opportunity to discuss the intensification of bilateral cooperation, including activities related to the opening of the Embassy of Montenegro in Bern, which will contribute to the strengthening of political and economic ties between the two countries," the statement said.
Ivanovic's office said that the interlocutors discussed economic cooperation, since Switzerland has been among the largest foreign investors in Montenegro over the last five years.
"Also, the possibilities of improving air connectivity between the two countries were discussed, taking into account the significant number of tourists from Switzerland visiting Montenegro, as well as the numerous Montenegrin diaspora in Switzerland," the statement said.
It is stated that special attention is paid to key regional and global topics that dominate current international relations.
"They particularly emphasized the importance of dialogue and cooperation in facing common challenges," the statement added.
Ivanovic thanked Lugon Mulan for the cooperation so far and said that he was convinced that through joint efforts, relations between Montenegro and Switzerland will continue to strengthen in all fields of mutual interest.
