The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) of Montenegro is doing an excellent job on the country's path towards the European Union (EU), said Slovenian Minister of Internal Affairs Boštjan Poklukar.
As announced by the Montenegrin Ministry of Interior, the relevant Minister Danilo Šaranović met with Poklukar during a ministerial meeting within the framework of the Brdo Process.
"The Ministry of Interior of Montenegro is doing an excellent job, and Slovenia will continue to provide full support to the reforms that you are resolutely implementing on your path to the EU," Poklukar emphasized.
He reportedly reiterated Slovenia's strong support for Montenegro's European integration.
"We see Montenegro on only one path, and that is the fastest path to the EU. Establishing an even stronger rule of law system and maintaining a stable security framework are key factors in that process," said Poklukar.
The Ministry of Interior said that the meeting between the two ministers represents a continuation of the exceptional bilateral cooperation between Montenegro and Slovenia, especially in the security segment.
"Excellent operational cooperation between the police forces of the two countries was noted, with a special emphasis on the fight against organized crime," the statement said.
According to Šaranović, the excellent cooperation between the police forces of the two countries must be even closer and more operational, because only through joint efforts can they stand in the way of criminal groups operating in this region.
"Regional stability depends on our ability to respond to security challenges, and Montenegro is fully committed to that goal," said Šaranović.
The interlocutors agreed that the security sector is a pillar that must be built continuously.
"If we do not have a strong security system, the state cannot be strong, neither economically, socially, nor politically," emphasized Šaranović.
Security, as he said, is not a static process, but the continuous building of institutions that have the strength, knowledge and integrity to respond to all challenges.
Šaranović emphasized that reform processes are in full swing and that the Ministry of Interior is leading the process of implementing Montenegro's obligations in the area of the rule of law.
"It was concluded that the partnership relations between Montenegro and Slovenia will continue to develop further through concrete operational activities, which will contribute to the security of the region and the European perspective of Montenegro," the statement said.
