The latest intention of the Government of Montenegro to cede Ulcinj's beach to investors from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in an extremely non-transparent and hasty procedure represents another in a series of blows to the vital interests of this city and its citizens, Božidar Turčinović, a member of the Main Board of the Civic Movement URA, announced today.
"Ulcinj's Velika Plaza, which stretches for 13 kilometers, is not just a tourist gem, it is first and foremost the heart of Ulcinj and the lifeblood of the entire tourism development potential of Montenegro," Trurčinović emphasized in a statement.
He added that this is just a continuation of a decades-long policy of subordinating Ulcinj to the interests of those in power, and that the decades of injustice inflicted on this city are the best evidence of this.
"If we rightly say that Velika Plaža is the heart of Ulcinj, then Valdanos and Solana bays certainly represent its lungs. But let's not forget that COVID-19 arrived in Ulcinj long before the rest of the world and that on that occasion it affected both 'lungs', which is why Ulcinj was on a 'respirator' for too long, until Dr. Abazović appeared, who decisively and boldly ended the agony and initiated an urgent and adequate intervention, thanks to which Valdanos and Solana, to the satisfaction of the people of Ulcinj, but also of the entire Montenegro, are breathing without restraint, independently and with full hearts. These continuous, I would say mindless, attacks on the vital organs of Montenegro best testify to how much the political clique has become autoimmune-diseased. Valdanos and Solana defended themselves from a plague thanks to the adequate, doctor-like intervention of Abazović. Unfortunately, there is no 'white coat' in decision-making positions today who would prevent this obvious thing in the name of social good and for the sake of the local community the dangerous intention of trading 'vital organs', but there are enough of us who do not need a position or office to defend the vital interests of this country at any cost. Which we will show in the coming period," Turčinović pointed out.
He added that Ulcinj and Montenegro are not against foreign investments.
"On the contrary, they are a dire need. However, investments must be in accordance with the law, the interests of the local community and long-term development plans, and not the result of agreements behind closed doors. In this name, inspired by Valdanos, Solana and the pride of the people of Ulcinj, supported by all of us who equally love every inch of this country, I am certain that no interest group will be allowed to rip out the 'heart' of Ulcinj," said Turčinović.
The governments of Montenegro and the UAE signed agreements on economic cooperation and joint investment the day before yesterday, at a ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Abu Dhabi.
The agreements were signed by Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajić and UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in the presence of President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
