The High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission (EC), Kaja Kalas, will begin her first official visit to the Western Balkans tomorrow with a stay in Montenegro.
As announced by the European House, during the visit, Kalas will meet with Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović and Prime Minister Milojko Spajić to discuss relations between the EU and Montenegro, the country's strategic direction and progress in the EU accession process.
"He will also hold a meeting with ambassadors of EU member states, talk to representatives of civil society, and present EU support in the field of defense and security," the Europe House announced.
The statement states that after the press conference with Spajić on Monday, Kalas will travel to Cetinje where he will meet with Milatović.
It is stated that Kalas will conclude his visit at the "Knjaz Danilo" Military Airport, where he will present a support package from the European Peace Fund intended for the Army of Montenegro and attend a presentation of military equipment together with Defense Minister Dragan Krapović.
On February 28, the Council of the European Union adopted a support package for the Army of Montenegro worth six million euros under the European Peace Facility.
"The aim of the support is to strengthen the capacities of the Montenegrin Army in order to improve national security, stability and resilience in the defense sector, as well as strengthen the country's capacities to participate in operations and missions of the EU's common foreign and defense policy, as well as in international coalitions," the European House announced earlier.
The aforementioned support package, as previously announced, represents a concrete result of the EU's continued engagement in the field of security and defense with Montenegro, but also with the Western Balkans as a whole.
"It also reflects Montenegro's full compliance with the EU's Common Foreign and Security Policy," they said in an earlier statement.
The European Peace Facility will, as announced at the time, provide the Montenegrin Army with extreme weather equipment, chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) defense equipment, as well as equipment for helicopter search and rescue units.
