It would seem that the government has managed to "break up" the student group "Kamo śutra", with the joint efforts of all those who from the beginning and without evidence accused them of being an outpost of political parties, the mafia, and generally, of being anything but "their own", the Human Rights Action (HRA) and the Women's Rights Center (CŽP) announced today.

A joint statement from these non-governmental organizations (NGOs) states that "Kamo śutra" announced that it was ceasing operations due to external pressure.

"Kamo śutra appeared before the mass murder in Cetinje, organizing a protest against sexual violence in schools and supporting the student protest in Serbia. After the tragedy in Cetinje, they demanded the resignations of the competent Minister of Internal Affairs and the Deputy Prime Minister for Security, because, among other omissions, they left Cetinje with the same insignificant number of police officers as before the previous crime in 2022. In addition, they made important demands regarding gun control, civic education and mental health," the HRA and CŽP statement, signed by Tea Gorjanc Prelević (HRA) and Maja Raičević (CŽP), states.

The statement added that "Kamo śutra" organized at least 14 rallies, most of which were massively attended.

"They were supported by over 100 professors and teaching assistants, over 200 artists and other cultural workers, over 160 civic activists, over 190 athletes and other sports workers, over 190 doctors and medical workers, over 330 engineers, the Faculty of Dramatic Arts, the Faculty of Montenegrin Language and Literature, the Faculty of Fine Arts, the Faculty of Law of the University of Montenegro, as well as many citizens who came to their rallies and who independently organized rallies in other cities to support the demands of "Kamo śutra". We sincerely congratulate and thank them for all of this. The actions of 'Kamo śutra' delegitimized officials who proved to be inadequate, but also uncompromising in their mere preservation of privileges," the statement reads.

HRA and CŽP state that the conclusion, that the noble effort of a group of very young and aware citizens, has moved thousands of people to dare to join them in demanding the resignations, and later the dismissals, of the Minister of Interior Danilo Šaranović and Deputy Prime Minister Aleksa Bečić, which, as stated in the statement, would have occurred in any normal society without any protest.

"Although the resignations and dismissals did not happen, there was still a mass protest in Montenegro, thanks to the young people gathered in '"Kamo śutra'. We hope that they will continue to contribute to a better Montenegro in the future, as they did through the work of this informal group. On the other hand, they are right when they say that the struggle of their collective failed 'because it was politicized and systematically rendered meaningless from the very beginning, which diverted attention from the crimes themselves, for which no one has yet taken responsibility, nor, apparently, feels it'. The 'Kamo śutra' protest was not in vain, because it loudly drew attention to the responsibility of institutions," said the HRA and the CŽP.

These NGOs state that they expect the Council for Civilian Control of Police Work to provide an opinion as soon as possible on why the use of police in Cetinje on January 1.1.2025, XNUMX did not meet the need to protect human rights to life and safety, and who is responsible for that.
