European Union High Representative and Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kalas announced today a military assistance package to Montenegro in the amount of six million euros under the European Peace Facility, confirming the EU's commitment to strengthening the country's defense sector.

During her visit to the Podgorica Military Airport, Kalas met with Defense Minister Dragan Krapović and attended a demonstration of some of the Montenegrin Army's equipment for search and rescue, mountaineering, and protection against atomic, biological, and chemical threats (ABHO).

As announced by the European House, military equipment financed from EU funds will improve the operational readiness of the Army of Montenegro, improve its ability to respond to dangerous threats and strengthen its capacities, with support for participation in EU missions and operations.

It was announced that Kallas reiterated the EU's strong support for Montenegro's path towards membership.

"This assistance is much more than a symbolic expression of solidarity – it is a strategic boost to Montenegro's security and resilience. As Montenegro takes major steps towards the EU, we deepen our shared commitment to peace and stability in the region," said Kalas.

Krapović emphasized that with this donation, Montenegro will improve its national defense and military capacities in the areas of ABHO capabilities, search and rescue, and equipment for extreme weather conditions, which will be beneficial in the context of the guidelines that the Montenegrin Army receives through the NATO Capability Goals.

The aforementioned military support package complements the EU's broader efforts for security and resilience in the Balkans, including a regional initiative to assist in the development of military medical capacities, which also includes Montenegro.
