Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović believes that it may not be a coincidence that Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, after returning from a trip to Dubai, signed an agreement with representatives of the Democratic Party of Socialists on their return to the Parliament.
It is possible, he believes, that this is all related to the agreement in the field of tourism and real estate development that the Government signed with the United Arab Emirates, and not to Montenegro's European integration.
Milatović, who is attending the Antalya Diplomatic Forum in Turkey, reiterated that he expects the European Union to clearly determine the document's compliance with the EU acquis.
"I think that is natural. You know that the European Union clearly states its position regarding every law that comes to the Montenegrin Parliament. This agreement will come to the Parliament of Montenegro in the coming days or weeks in the form of a law, a lex specialis. I had a very clear position on this, I think it does not need to be repeated, but I have a clear expectation that the European Union will say very clearly - whether the agreement, now in the form of a law, is in line with the EU acquis. And I think that is fair and necessary, in the context of our strategic commitment - which is Montenegro as a full member of the European Union," said Milatović, as announced by his cabinet.
Milatović also emphasized that the responsibility lies primarily with all members of the Government, and now also with the MPs.
"I must note that from this perspective, the sequence of events may not be a coincidence - that, after returning from a trip to Dubai, the Prime Minister and representatives of the Democratic Party of Socialists sign an agreement on their return to the Parliament of Montenegro. It is possible that this is all connected to this agreement with the Emirates, and not to our European integration. I would not like it to be so, but you know what - I no longer believe in coincidences," said Milatović.
