The Europe Now Movement (PES) should discuss with the coalition For the Future of Nikšić (ZBNK) and the Democrats about forming a government in that city, but it should not support Marko Kovačević for mayor, said PES official Darko Dragović.
Dragović said in a show on Television of Montenegro that, according to current projections, the future government in Nikšić will depend on the votes of PES.
He said that it is natural, given the coalition at the state level, that they are negotiating power with the ZBNK coalition and the Democrats.
"There is no doubt whether or not we should go with ZBNK or the Democrats in Nikšić. However, there is certainly disagreement within PES about supporting Kovačević for mayor. On my own behalf, I say that PES neither should nor may, as a civic movement, support Kovačević in this matter," said Dragović.
He added that the final position will be taken by the PES bodies, and that he will respect them.
Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) official Oskar Huter said that Kovačević should be the future mayor of the municipality if the ZBNK list receives the most votes, stating that other combinations for the sake of seats would be unprincipled.
"If DPS has the highest percentage of votes, you will agree that it was the citizens who decided it," said Huter, stating that DPS has won more mandates than in previous local elections.
Democrat official Tamara Vujović said that the party's statute states that it will never enter into a coalition with DPS.
She said that the election results show that the majority of citizens of Nikšić and Herceg Novi think that Montenegro is heading in the right direction, and that they are against the policies of the DPS.
