The devastating fact that there is no final verdict, nor the names of those responsible for the crime in Kaluđerski laz, was announced today by the Bosniak Party (BS) councilor in the Rožaje Municipal Assembly (MA), Amina Dautovic.
"Today, April 18th, marks 26 years since the crime in Kaluđerski laz, in which members of the Army of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia killed 22 civilians and wounded seven more in the area of Kaluđerski laz, near Rožaje," Dautovic said in a statement.
She added that among the victims were women, children and the elderly, and that they were killed simply because they were of Albanian ethnicity.
"This crime was also a kind of reflection of the events in Kosovo, given that it is a border area between Montenegro and Kosovo, and all in order to intensify the effect of ethnic cleansing, which was in force," Dautović said in a statement. "It is a devastating fact that even after so many years there is no final verdict, nor the names of those responsible," Dautović said.
She said that there is no memorial to the victims, despite the initiative to erect one.
"The inconsolable families of the victims are still looking for an address for compensation. We hereby support the aforementioned initiative to erect a memorial to the victims of the crime in Kaluđerski laz, and once again call on the Prosecutor's Office to investigate the circumstances under which innocent people were killed, and to adequately convict the perpetrators and instigators of this crime. Although late, the extended hand of justice can be the only consolation for the families of the victims, and the only way to build a better future for our society is to realistically confront the past," said Dautovic.
