Bečić: New ships for the Navy will be named "Petar I Njegoš" and "Petar II Njegoš"

"Even the most modern equipment does not renounce its roots, but rather carries them through time, from the Montenegrin cap to the Montenegrin flag on deck," said Bečić.

The construction of new patrol ships for the needs of the Navy of the Armed Forces of Montenegro (AVCG) officially begins today at the "Kership" shipyard in France, announced Aleksa Bečić, Deputy Prime Minister for Security, Defense, Fight against Crime and Internal Policy and Coordinator of the Bureau for Operational Coordination of Intelligence and Security Sector Bodies (BOK).

"With this act, we are building a new pillar of state security, a new pillar of our defense policy and a new page of military modernization. These ships are a message that Montenegro will never again be a weak point in the Adriatic, but a reliable pillar of peace, security and alliance," Bečić emphasized in a statement.

He added that the new patrol ships are designed for a wide range of tasks: from monitoring territorial waters, to combating smuggling and illegal migration, to participating in international missions within NATO.

"Each of these missions confirms our strategic maturity, that we know that freedom is not inherited, but preserved. With special respect, I emphasize that the new ships will bear the names 'Petar I Njegoš' and 'Petar II Njegoš'. And this is precisely because the security of Montenegro rests on honor, history and the spiritual vertical founded by the greatest among us. Even the most modern equipment does not renounce its roots, but rather carries them through time, from the Montenegrin cap to the Montenegrin flag on deck," said Bečić.

He said that this project marks the beginning of a new era for the Montenegrin Navy.

"An age in which we do not depend on others, but rather contribute to the community of allies. An age in which we preserve both our sea and history, but also our word. And in which we know that peace does not come alone, peace is built, defended and deserved," said Bečić.
