The Women's Association of the Europe Now Movement condemned, as they announced, the continuous, unfounded and insulting attacks to which the party's MP, Jelena Nedović, has been subjected.
In the statement, they stated that this is not just an attack on one woman, but an attempt to discourage every woman in Montenegro who dares to be herself - educated, vocal, dignified and free.
"Jelena Nedović has been enduring personal insults, threats and public humiliation for months - not because of her work or actions, but solely because she does not fit into the expected patterns of behavior for women in public. Such treatment is unacceptable in any democratic society. What is additionally worrying is the silence with which such attacks are often accompanied. This silence sends the message that it is okay for a woman to be targeted if her opinion is different, if she is politically active and independent. We believe that this is not and must not be the new normal," it was announced.
They add that Nedović deserves respect and support for his work, knowledge, and attitude towards public office.
"She is an example of political culture, courage and integrity. This statement is not only an act of solidarity, but also a call to responsibility - for all of us. Let us together build a society in which women are respected, in which disagreement is allowed, but insults are unacceptable. It is time to say clearly: violence is violence, regardless of the form, and regardless of who its target is. We stand with Jelena. And we stand with each other. And we always will," the PES Women's Association said in a statement.
