The President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, announced today that he will familiarize himself in detail with the laws confirming the Government's agreements concluded with the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
He told reporters after speaking at the NATO Youth Summit organized by the Atlantic Alliance of Montenegro and NATO, which is being held in Budva.
Milatović said that the laws arrived two days ago, and that the deadline to sign them is seven days and expires at the beginning of next week.
Milatović indicated yesterday that he would not sign laws confirming the government's agreements with the UAE, which he had previously deemed illegal.
He told reporters today that he is pleased that Montenegro is hosting the fifth NATO Youth Summit.
"A great idea for Montenegro and an example of credible membership. This was a good opportunity to send important messages regarding membership. I believe that this platform has enabled the modernization of the Army. Montenegro allocates two percent for defense, yesterday the construction of ships for the Navy began, and NATO membership is important on the path to the European Union (EU).
Milatović said that Montenegro had fulfilled its obligation from the NATO summit in Wales, which was held in 2014, to allocate two percent for defense, and that at the summit in The Hague, which will be held this year, it will probably agree to allocate above three percent, and that he expects Montenegro to fulfill that task as well.
Milatović said that the Army of Montenegro, as the army of an allied country, participates in missions within the eastern wing, that it is present in Bulgaria and Latvia, and that in this way it contributes to the security of the eastern wing.
"In addition to the NATO alliance itself, the Montenegrin Army participates in United Nations missions, for example in Cyprus. In this way, the Montenegrin Army contributes to the overall image as a member of the United Nations," said the president.
