The solutions envisaged in the Concept of the Law on Local Elections, which envisages holding local elections in one day, direct election of municipal presidents and the introduction of open electoral lists, represent a step in the right direction, believes the President of the State, Jakov Milatović.
"What I want to say very clearly is - full support for open lists, for the election of councilors in local governments through open lists, full support for the direct election of mayors or presidents of municipalities, as well as for elections in one day, when it comes to all our local governments," Milatović said.
Milatović told the MINA agency, after the plenary session of the Three Seas Initiative Summit, that he would like to see similar solutions found when it comes to the law on the election of deputies in the Montenegrin Parliament.
"You know that I am a big advocate of open lists. I think that the citizens of Montenegro must finally directly elect representatives in the Montenegrin Parliament, in the same way that they elect the president of the country," said Milatović.
Asked whether he believes it is time for the Committee for Comprehensive Electoral Reform to finally start working more intensively on the work delegated to it, he said that everyone expects this from that parliamentary body and that he believes that will be the case.
