The entire European Union (EU) is witness to the results that Montenegro has achieved in a very short period of time, members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Spanish Senate announced at a meeting with the head of the Montenegrin Parliament, Andrija Mandić.
Today, as part of his official visit to Spain, Mandić held a meeting with the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Spanish Senate, José Ignacio Landalusa Calleja, and members of the Committee.
As announced by the Parliament, Mandić emphasized the importance of Spain's support for Montenegro's European path, and added that it was an exceptional honor for him to be able to speak in the Spanish Senate.
He briefed the Committee on the reportedly historic results achieved by the 28th convocation of the Assembly, particularly emphasizing the closure of three negotiation chapters at the end of last year.
Mandić added that as a parliamentary majority, they have an ambitious plan to close all remaining negotiation chapters by the end of 2026.
"And that it is not unrealistic for us to expect that we will then receive the support of the member states and become the first full member of the EU in 2028," the statement added.
Mandić said that Montenegro would fulfill all the prerequisites for the negotiation chapters to be closed within the set deadline.
"Our parliamentary diplomacy is in full swing and includes almost all members of the Parliament who have been visiting and conveying a similar message to their colleagues from EU member states in recent months, who ultimately make the decision on the admission of a new member state," Mandić emphasized.
He stressed that the support of Spain, as one of the largest countries in Europe and a key factor in the EU, is of exceptional importance to Montenegro.
It is stated that the President and members of the Committee thanked President Mandić for the meeting, adding that the entire EU is witness to the results that Montenegro has achieved in a very short period of time.
"They concluded that this visit is a symbol of the traditionally good relations between the two countries and the crowning glory of bilateral relations," the statement said.
