Ranko Krivokapić has been hired at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) for a fixed term of two years, and his work engagement began on December 16, 2024, said Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović, who confirmed to the daily "Dan" that the former long-time Speaker of the Parliament is employed in the position of Ambassador-Advisor.

Ibrahimović reminded that the appointment of an advisor of that rank, and claims that it is a civil service position, which, unlike other ministries, has a high-sounding name, is the autonomous right of the minister.

"I have appointed a man who has been elected as the President of the Parliament four times. In 120 years of parliamentarism in Montenegro, he has been the President of the Parliament four times. He is the former President of the largest parliamentary assembly in the world - the OSCE, he was the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the 43rd Government and for more than three decades a member of the Parliament of Montenegro. He was a member of the Parliament in both the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and Serbia and Montenegro. So, we can safely say that a man with respectable experience and significant domestic and international connections is a desirable and useful advisor," the minister explained.

He also pointed out that we are all witnesses that in the political past, Ranko Krivokapić had clear views on the direction in which Montenegro is heading today.

"And there is agreement from the current Government on this - independence, democracy, the European path and NATO membership. So, it is more than clear that the former President of the Parliament can only contribute to Montenegro's European path. And it is important for me to say that Montenegro is in a very challenging moment today. Anyone with their experience, knowledge, connections and position can contribute to ensuring that the strategic goal of our country - membership in the European Union by 2028 - is achieved to the satisfaction of all citizens of Montenegro who want a prosperous and European future in this society," Ibrahimović emphasized.

He pointed out that these were the most important reasons why Ranko Krivokapić was appointed as an advisor.

"I think that he can, with his experience - enormous experience - but above all with his clear positions when it comes to Montenegro's foreign policy, only contribute, and in no way harm our path towards the European Union," the minister added.

Responding to the question of whether Prime Minister Milojko Spajić knew that Ranko Krivokapić was an advisor at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ibrahimović said that the Prime Minister did not need to know, because the appointment to that position was the autonomous right of the minister.

"There are no disagreements between me and the Prime Minister. Our relationship is, above all, recognized as very professional and correct. We have always had quality cooperation, and I think that we are both doing what is stipulated by the Constitution and to the best of our ability. I think that I am working at full capacity and that the Prime Minister recognizes that. For the position to which Krivokapić was appointed, I am not even obliged to consult with colleagues from the Government," says Ibrahimović.

Krivokapić was the president of the Social Democratic Party of Montenegro (SDP) from 2001–2019, and is now the honorary president of the SDP.
