Montenegro can and should be a positive example that will intensify reforms and European integration in the region, said the leader of the Bosniak Party (BS) Ervin Ibrahimović.
As reported by BS, the party's delegation led by Ibrahimović also had a number of important bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the European People's Party (EPP) Congress in Valencia.
It is stated that BS representatives met with Reinhold Lopatka, the European Parliament (EP) rapporteur for Montenegro on behalf of the EPP.
"Lopatka and Ibrahimović discussed the current situation in the Western Balkans and Montenegro, European integration and the importance of further updating the European Union (EU) enlargement policy in light of geopolitical challenges," the statement said.
As stated by BS, the interlocutors agreed that the enlargement policy is an excellent mechanism for continuing reforms in the region, and that the Western Balkans needs support in their implementation.
The meeting also assessed that enlargement is a process that ends with results.
"Montenegro can and should be a positive example that will intensify reforms and European integration in the region," Ibrahimović said.
It is stated that at the meeting with Patricia Lips, Deputy Head of the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group for European Policy in the Bundestag, there was discussion of supporting Montenegro in the EU integration process through improving cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries.
"Given that the CDU party will, after more than 60 years, be given the position of MVP," the statement added.
Ibrahimović said that he was pleased with this fact and that the cooperation between the BS and the CDU within the EPP would further strengthen relations between Montenegro and Germany.
The meeting also launched an initiative to strengthen political cooperation between CDU/CSU deputies and the BS parliamentary group.
"During the meeting with Jurgen Hardt, rapporteur of the CDU/CSU foreign policy working group in the Bundestag, it was concluded that Montenegro is a stable partner in the region," the statement said.
Ibrahimović, as reported, stressed that he expects cooperation between the two countries to intensify, with special emphasis on Germany's support for Montenegro's EU integration.
BS said that the delegation led by Ibrahimović also had a meeting with Croatian MEP Tomislav Sokol, at which they discussed relations between the two neighboring and friendly countries, taking into account all the current challenges they face.
"The interlocutors agreed that it is necessary to find models for overcoming these challenges, and that it is of key importance on this path that the countries of the Western Balkans join the EU as soon as possible and accept European values and standards," the statement added.
