President Jakov Milatović received King Abdullah II of Jordan today, as part of his first, historic visit to Montenegro, which represents a strong signal of friendship and respect between the two countries, the Public Relations Office of the President of Montenegro announced.
"The visit of King Abdullah II to Montenegro at my invitation is a confirmation of our mutual willingness to deepen relations in the spirit of mutual respect, dialogue and shared values. I believe that it opens a new page in our relations, as a strong incentive for intensifying political, economic and security cooperation between our countries," said Milatović, and King Abdullah II invited the Montenegrin president to pay an official visit to Jordan.
As stated by the President's Office, during the meeting, the importance of the common values that bind Montenegro and Jordan was emphasized - commitment to multilateralism, promotion of tolerance, interreligious dialogue and understanding between peoples. It was emphasized that these values represent the foundation on which the two countries can further build close and meaningful interstate relations.
Milatović's office reminds that King Abdullah II's visit comes after a meeting with the President of Montenegro on the sidelines of the Aqaba Process Summit in Sofia in April, which, they say, confirms the will to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation and political dialogue.
"In the conversation, President Milatović emphasized the importance of the Aqaba Process, which, as an initiative of King Abdullah II, represents an important framework for the exchange of experiences and coordination of activities in the field of regional and global security. He said that Montenegro, as a NATO ally and a country aspiring to full membership in the European Union, expresses its full readiness to contribute to global and regional efforts to preserve peace and security through dialogue and a partnership approach. He added that Montenegro supports Jordan's proactive role in seeking a peaceful solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and appreciates the efforts of King Abdullah II in stabilizing the situation in the Middle East, especially in Gaza.
"By NATO's decision, the Alliance's first office in the Middle East will soon be opened in Amman, which represents the latest step towards confirming the strategic partnership with that country. Jordan also has strategic partnerships with the US and the European Union," the statement from the president's office said.
It is emphasized that the interlocutors agreed that there is room for intensifying economic cooperation, especially in the areas of tourism, agriculture, investment, transport and the digital economy. The need to reactivate the mechanisms of bilateral economic cooperation and organize the third forum of businessmen of Montenegro and Jordan was also highlighted. In this context, the issue of establishing charter flights between the two countries was discussed.
"The two officials expressed their mutual willingness to strengthen cooperation in multilateral frameworks, through initiatives and forums that promote intercultural dialogue and global stability. The President of Montenegro praised Jordan's role in preserving religious tolerance and pointed to Montenegro's tradition in fostering multiculturalism and interfaith harmony, which represents another strong bond between the two countries," the statement concluded.
