"Vijesti" announced this morning that, according to unofficial information, negotiations on forming a government in Nikšić have begun between representatives of the coalition "For the Future of Nikšić", the Democrats and the Europe Now Movement (PES). However, PES quickly denied that negotiations had not begun, and that "Vijesti"'s information was incorrect.
"Negotiations on the formation of the government did not begin two days ago as you claim, and so far the Europe Now! Movement has not been a participant in any agreements on the constitution of the local government in Nikšić," reads the PES denial.
However, the still current mayor of the Municipality of Nikšić and the leader of the "For the Future of Nikšić" list, Marko Kovačević, confirmed the allegations of "Vijesti" in a statement to the RTCG portal.
"The atmosphere is good. We have established the principle that until we agree on everything, we will not go public. I think the negotiations will be efficient and that we will not have to wait long for the government to be constituted," Kovačević told the portal of the Public Media Service of Montenegro.
The information was confirmed to "Vijesti" by the representative of the Democrats, the current vice president of the Municipality, Mitar Goranović, who, among others, attended the beginning of the negotiations.
"The day before last we had the first official meeting regarding the formation of the government in Nikšić. As we have previously emphasized, our priority in the negotiations will be our program goals that we presented to the public and the citizens of Nikšić in the election campaign. The conversation took place in a positive atmosphere, where all three parties presented some starting points that will be built upon and corrected in the coming days. I sincerely hope that the citizens of Nikšić will receive a stable government that will deliver good results and best meet their needs," Goranović told "Vijesti".
As "Vijesti" unofficially learned, the meeting was held the night before last at 19 p.m., in the premises of the New Serbian Democracy in Nikšić. Two representatives from each party attended, and the meeting was attended, among others, by Uglješa Urošević, who was second on the PES list, on behalf of PES.
In the local elections held on April 13, the coalition "For the Future of Nikšić" won 15 seats, PES five, and Democrats-Plenum 083 won three. The Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) won 16 seats, and the European Alliance two seats.
The Nikšić Municipal Assembly has 41 councilors, and ZBNK, Democrats and PES, if they agree, would have 23 councilors.
