The Nikšić branch of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) has filed a criminal complaint against the mayor, Marko Kovačević, "due to reasonable suspicion that he committed a criminal offense - abuse of official position."
"Namely, the Mayor of Nikšić signed, on March 19, 03, a contract with representatives of the BIG Fashion company, on the purchase and sale of construction land with an area of 2025 square meters for the construction of a business facility. The contract was signed based on the Public Invitation and the Decision on the announcement of an advertisement for the collection of bids for the sale of construction land, but without a previously adopted Decision of the Nikšić Municipal Assembly on the sale of construction land," the Nikšić DPS announced.
"For the umpteenth time, Marko Kovačević violates the laws, the Constitution and abuses his official position, and then invokes and hides behind parliamentary immunity. However, no matter how persistent he is in committing criminal acts, we will be just as persistent in uncovering them. In conclusion, we call on the prosecution to take the necessary action as soon as possible, in order to protect the best interests of the Municipality of Nikšić, to determine the responsibility of the person who is selling off state land without the consent of the Municipal Assembly, which is exclusively within its jurisdiction," the statement reads.
