The session of the Nikšić Municipal Assembly (MA) at which the mandates of the new councilors will be confirmed will be held on May 27th.
"According to the Law on Local Self-Government, I have convened the collegium of the President of the Assembly to agree on holding a constitutive session at which the mandates of the councilors elected in the elections on April 13th should be confirmed and the President of the Assembly should be elected. We have jointly agreed on the date for that session to be May 27th. I believe that at that session we will have a President of the Assembly and a new government formed," said the President of the Nikšić Municipal Assembly, Nemanja Vuković, after reaching an agreement with the holders of the electoral lists that achieved parliamentary status.
The meeting with Vuković was attended by the leader of the list "For the Future of Nikšić" and the current Mayor of the Municipality, Marko Kovačević, the leader of the DPS list, Boris Muratović, the leader of the PES list, Dr. Zoran Mrkić, the leader of the European Union list, Ivan Radojičić, and the representative of the Democrats - Plenum 083 coalition, Vidak Krtolica. The meeting was also attended by the Secretary of the Nikšić Municipal Assembly, Ivana Šljukić.
The constituent session will be chaired by the oldest councilor, Miodrag Dragan Nikolić from DPS.
In the local elections in Nikšić, which were held on April 13th, and the results were published in the Official Gazette on April 28th, DPS won 16 councilor mandates, the coalition led by Kovačević 15 mandates, PES five mandates, Democrats-Plenum 083 three mandates, and the European Alliance two.
Negotiations on forming a government are being led by coalitions and parties that are partners at the state level – "For the Future of Nikšić", PES and Democrats-083.
When asked by "Vijesti" how far the negotiations have come, as well as when the results of the agreement will be known, Vuković said that they remain committed to the principle that "nothing is agreed until everything is agreed."
"I believe that by May 27th we will have an agreed government, that we will elect the President of the Assembly at that session, and that he will convene a session at which the President of the Municipality will be elected, and I believe the Vice President of the Municipality as well, and that we will thus complete the formation of the government. But we remain with the position that proved to be correct in 2021 - that until we agree on everything, we will not go public with the details of the negotiation process," said Vuković.
After the constituent session, a session must be scheduled within a month at the latest to elect the President of the Municipality.
