The President of the Parliament of Montenegro and the leader of the New Serbian Democracy, Andrija Mandić, said that they have a clear agreement with their coalition partners on the functioning of the executive branch, and that Foreign Minister Ervin Ibrahimović violated these principles by voting at a meeting of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (CoE).
Ibrahimović announced yesterday at the session of the Committee of Ministers that Montenegro, as a responsible member state, will continue to strongly promote the values of multilateralism, as well as the strategic goals and principles of the Council of Europe, and that in this regard, the membership of the Republic of Kosovo in the Council of Europe should be supported.
Mandić stated on Facebook that the agreement is to "work together on the realization of a foreign policy priority - Montenegro's EU membership, and therefore we are placing a moratorium on issues on which there is no agreement within the parliamentary majority."
"The government leads the domestic and foreign policy of Montenegro and the only place where compliance with these principles is determined are decisions at government sessions. With yesterday's vote at the meeting of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, Minister of Foreign Affairs Evrin Ibrahimović violated both principles. The minister must not advocate what he personally wants, but is obliged to implement the policy pursued by the government," Mandić pointed out.
He added that the Government advocates Montenegro's entry into the EU, "and not for fulfilling the foreign policy ambitions of Albanian politicians from Kosovo and Metohija."
"With the unilateral decision to vote in the Council of Europe, without any consultations with coalition partners, and especially without a decision from the Government, the Minister of Foreign Affairs directly challenged our agreements and the coalition agreement, jeopardized good neighborly relations with Serbia and tried to divert Montenegro from the EU path."
Mandić expects the Government to make a clear decision regarding this vote.
"The latest actions are contrary to the agreements and the signed coalition agreement and represent only a continuation of the wrong policies pursued by the previous authorities, which were defeated in the 2020 and 2023 elections," said Mandić.
