The reactions of Parliament Speaker Andrija Mandić and Democratic People's Party leader Milan Knežević regarding Montenegro's position on Kosovo's admission to the Council of Europe are confirmation that the current government is only interested in positions of power and official privileges, the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) announced.
Mandić previously assessed that Foreign Minister Ervin Ibrahimović, by supporting Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe, challenged the agreements and coalition agreement, jeopardized good neighborly relations with Serbia, and attempted to divert Montenegro from its European path.
"Such reactions are just a continuation of the current government's failed international policy, which resulted in the adoption of a resolution on Jasenovac, which resulted in the blockade of the closure of negotiation chapter 31, which directly harmed Montenegro's European path," the DPS stated.
The party said that since the beginning of the government's work, they have been claiming that, due to such ideological differences and the absence of any programmatic agreement, the current parliamentary majority cannot bring Montenegro into the European Union.
"Nor can they make any significant strides in the field of domestic politics, which the past two years and the absence of any serious results confirm," the DPS added.
Instead, as they said, the current government serves to "fulfill party quotas, employ friends and relatives, and fulfill the boyhood dreams of unfulfilled individuals whose only goal in life is to become officials in order to heal all their life's frustrations."
"And precisely because of all this, this government is losing the trust of citizens on a daily basis and after the next parliamentary elections it will go into deserved opposition," the statement said.
