Social Democrat MP and European Union representative Nikola Zirojević called on Bosniak Party MPs to submit a resolution condemning Israeli crimes in Palestine to the parliamentary procedure.
The Palestine Solidarity Movement announced that Zirojević, at the "Time Without Light" panel organized by the Youth Initiative for Human Rights, said that he would not resubmit the resolution to the parliamentary procedure, but that he had called on the members of the Supreme Council, who, as he stated, offered support the first time he initiated it, to now take the initiative, and that he would give his signature and support as an MP.
"The petition calling for the condemnation of Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people has collected more than 7.000 signatures within 24 hours, which is the fastest signed petition in the history of Montenegro. This initiative is legally valid and democratically legitimate. Refusing to include its essence on the Parliament's agenda at all represents a trampling on democracy and a humiliation of the will of thousands of citizens. Montenegro, as a member of the United Nations, the Council of Europe and a signatory to the Geneva Conventions, the Genocide Convention (1948), and the UN Charter, is clearly obliged to: take measures to prevent and punish genocide, condemn all forms of systematic violence against civilians, and not be complicit in crimes through silence or neutrality," the statement reads.
The Palestine Solidarity Movement called on the BS and "all other parties that call for human rights and justice to urgently take up this civic initiative" and submit the resolution to parliamentary procedure.
"While the world watches as the genocidal campaign continues in Gaza, bombing hospitals, starving civilians, and murdering children, the Montenegrin parliament remains silent. Each new delay makes Montenegro more and more responsible for its passivity in the face of crime. History will not forget who was on the side of the victims and who was on the side of the oppressors. We remind you that at protests across Montenegro, in Ulcinj, Bar, Podgorica, Bijelo Polje, Plav, Rožaje, Berane, thousands of citizens demanded immediate condemnation of Israeli crimes, as well as at large civic gatherings last year in Podgorica and demanded the adoption of a resolution. That will must not remain ignored. Its disrespect means a loss of trust in institutions," the Movement says.
It is time, they said, for Montenegrin MPs to "show that they represent the people, and not calculate according to the dictates of political comfort or particular interests."
"The Palestinian people cannot wait any longer. The victims cannot wait. Justice cannot wait. That is why we will not stop until our state takes concrete measures against the Israeli regime and until the voice of justice is heard from our institutions," the statement reads.
