A progressive, anti-corruption and democratic civil society can be the basis for the formation of a broad civic list that would have the strength to advocate for public policies that are in the interest of the majority of citizens and are also dedicated to creating a responsible and credible state, the Civic Initiative (GI) announced today, May 21st.
"Party policies are self-sufficient and incapable of resolving the deformations, suffering and problems of Montenegrin society. Official pro-European policy has been reduced to formalistic harmonisation with EU negotiation chapters and bureaucratic harassment of the business and non-governmental sectors," the GI 21 May statement states.
They added that one part of the government is pretending to be European, another part is pretending to be reformers with a clerical spirit, while the third part is made up of moles tailored to the orders of the regime of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.
"A government like this, apart from being unable to resolve the simplest state issues, is increasingly undermining EU membership. When we add to this the opposition that is either on a backstage leash like the worn-out DPS or is spinning in a circle of petrified and opportunistic politics like the European Union or is a compromised remnant of the former government like URE, then it is quite clear to what extent the parliamentary parties are in conflict with the expectations of disappointed and disoriented citizens," the statement reads.
The GI 21st May said that this is why the current political class is an almost hopeless case.
"Currently, the alternative lies only in pro-European and autonomous non-partisan and non-governmental organizations, secular civic groups, and media that are outside of party control. A progressive, anti-corruption, and democratic civil society can be the basis for the formation of a broad civic list that would have the strength to advocate for public policies that are in the interest of the majority of citizens and are also dedicated to creating a responsible and credible state," GI 21. maj said.
