Democratic Montenegro announced tonight that it appears that the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) and its MP Jevto Eraković are calling on the head of the Kavača criminal clan, Radoje Zvicer, "to retake command of the security sector."
The party reacted to Eraković's statement, who earlier today said that "today's attempted murder in the center of Podgorica, which occurred in broad daylight, is yet another confirmation that citizens cannot feel safe and secure with such a security sector."

"Unlike Canada, Germany, Sweden and numerous other most developed countries in the world where we very often see serious crimes, great tragedies and crimes, but never political meddling on these issues, here we witness the complete opposite. We are the only country in the world that has such a hypocritical party, such as the DPS, which does not miss a single moment for cheap politicking and meddling on these issues, but also a clear attempt to defend criminal structures in Montenegro," the Democrats' statement states.
The party added that MP Eraković is certainly not an unknown man.
"He knows well, as does the whole of Montenegro, that all that is happening and has been happening in Montenegro over the past decades is the exclusive consequence of his party's policies and the fact that they have left command of the security sector to none other than the biggest criminals in the Balkans. And that the security sector and police operations were commanded by none other than the fugitive criminal Radoje Zvicer, the whole of Montenegro was able to see for itself just a few days ago," the Democrats' statement reads.
They added that "while key state institutions were transformed into servile centers of criminal structures, today DPS personnel choices in key positions in the security sector and other institutions are in the dock, facing verdicts and confirmed indictments."
"So since DPS and Eraković seem to be calling on 'commander' Zvicer to retake command of the security sector, we will briefly remind him of only a part of the results of that command during their rule: 711 murders, of which 86 were unsolved, and the fact that journalists, police inspectors and many others were killed on the streets of Montenegro. During the last DPS government alone, 96 murders occurred, of which 6 of those killed were accidental victims in criminal clashes. Thus, we have come to the conclusion that Montenegro was probably one of the rare countries in the world that had a party in power that, instead of fighting crime, fought for it," the Democrats said.
From that party, he states, "and instead of remaining silent in the DPS after all the evidence that undoubtedly confirms their connection with organized crime, when they do not want or are not allowed to support our determined fight against crime in cleaning up the security sector, with their hypocritical attacks and unfounded criticism, they only continue their policy of defending criminal structures in Montenegro, but also of embarrassing them in front of the domestic and international public."
"In the end, we know why Mr. Eraković is more suited to Radoje Zvicer at the head of the security sector than honest people, and the findings lie in the connection of certain officials with a business company," the Democrats wrote in a statement.
