Živković: DPS will not support the agreement with the UAE

"It was done in a hurry, it was done overnight, without respecting transparency procedures at the international level and contrary to domestic legislation. We were against it too. Why weren't we in the hall? It wasn't the first time that the Democratic Party of Socialists walked out of the hall and left the parliamentary majority to show who was in favor of such an agreement," Živković pointed out.

The Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) will not support the document during the re-vote on the agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the Parliament on May 29, said DPS President Danijel Živković.

"It was done in a hurry, it was done overnight, without respecting transparency procedures at the international level and contrary to domestic legislation. We were against it too. Why weren't we in the hall? It wasn't the first time that the Democratic Party of Socialists walked out of the hall and left the parliamentary majority to show who was in favor of such an agreement," Živković pointed out in the Argumenti show on Radio Television of Montenegro, RTCG Portal reports.

He says this has led to some controversy.

"That's how the Democratic Party of Socialists won't vote against that agreement because allegedly some capital of Milo Đukanović is hidden behind it, so imagine the case of Andrija Mandić voting for the agreement behind which Milo Đukanović's capital is hidden," said Živković.

He adds that this is "a deliberate act of stupidity in the laboratory of those who are definitely working to destroy the economic potential that Montenegro has."

"So, that served a part of the non-governmental sector to additionally try to gather a part of the public that probably votes for the Democratic Party of Socialists and to spread some intrigues or suspicions again. So, there are no intrigues or suspicions. Tonight, as in previous weeks and months, we said we cannot vote for that agreement, we will not vote for that agreement and our attitude towards that agreement will again be the same as last time," he pointed out.

On the night of April 22-23, after a debate that lasted more than 12 hours, MPs ratified two agreements between the governments of Montenegro and the UAE. The less controversial document on economic cooperation was supported by 50 MPs, while 10 were against. The Agreement on Tourism and Real Estate Development, which, among other things, provides for the exemption of public procurement legislation during the implementation of projects, was voted for by 46 MPs, ten against, while four abstained.

DPS MPs were not in the assembly hall when decisions were being made to ratify the agreement on economic cooperation, tourism, and real estate development with the UAE.

On April 29, Head of State Jakov Milatović did not sign the Law on Ratification of the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Tourism and Real Estate Development between the Governments of Montenegro and the UAE and returned it to parliament for reconsideration.

On May 29th, MPs are scheduled to vote again on the Montenegro-UAE Agreement, which Milatović returned.

DPS MP Nikola Janović announced on May 6 that he would vote against the Law on Ratifying the Agreement with the UAE on Tourism and Real Estate Development.

On April 23, Živković said at a press conference that they were against "such agreements and the way this government imagines bringing investors into Montenegro...", and that they were not at the vote because they left the parliamentary majority "to show who is in favor of such an agreement."
