Democratic MP Momčilo Leković submitted an initiative to the Inquiry Committee to include the case of the beating of Milorad Mio Martinović in October 2015 in the work of that body.
"Based on the basic competence and goal of the Inquiry Committee, to shed light on all circumstances indicating an excess of authority by members of the police authorities from that period, I believe that the inclusion of this case is not only justified, but also necessary. This event provoked a strong public reaction and left numerous open questions, especially regarding the identity and responsibility of those who participated in the brutal treatment of Mr. Martinović," he said.
To date, Leković points out, this case has not received an institutional epilogue that would "meet the standards of justice and transparency."
"We are seeking an answer to the question: who ordered this brutal beating, or who are the people who for decades in Montenegro have been making decisions about who will live and who will die," said the Democratic MP.
He believes, he says, that considering this case will contribute to the credibility and comprehensiveness of the Inquiry Committee's work, and further strengthen citizens' trust in the institutions of the system.
"At the same time, it sends a clear message that no form of police brutality should go uninvestigated or unpunished," the statement said.
