The Government today adopted a Decision on the destruction of tobacco products seized in the Port of Bar Free Zone, which, as announced, systematically closes the long-standing issue of dealing with these products.
The Government announced that today's session adopted the Information on the proposal for resolving the status of tobacco products confiscated pursuant to the Decision on the prohibition of storage of tobacco products in the territory of the "Port of Bar" Free Zone.
"In this context, the Government has adopted a Decision on the destruction of confiscated tobacco products, which, as emphasized, systematically closes the long-standing issue of dealing with tobacco products confiscated on this basis," the statement said.
In doing so, it is added, the Government demonstrates a clear and unwavering determination to systematically and without compromise combat tobacco product smuggling, which represents a multi-year security, fiscal and economic challenge.
It is stated that by making this decision and implementing the destruction in accordance with the Operational Plan of the Coordination Body, the issue of dealing with confiscated tobacco products, which can no longer be stored in the Free Zone, will be resolved.
"This enables the legal and safe destruction of seized goods, taking into account in particular requirements related to environmental protection," the government said.
They pointed out that the destruction of seized tobacco products will free up the resources of the competent authorities, which are currently focused on conducting increased surveillance of the goods.
"The Decision will also have a positive impact on legal businesses because the reduction of the illegal market will also reduce unfair competition," the statement said.
It is concluded that the destruction of illegal tobacco products sends a clear message that the state will not tolerate violations of the law, thereby strengthening citizens' trust in institutions and the rule of law.
