Defense Minister Dragan Krapović announced that he was not surprised that some of the deputies from the pro-Russian New Serbian Democracy (NSD) voted to send Montenegrin soldiers to the European Union (EU) military assistance mission to support Ukraine.
He said in the show Načisto on Television Vijesti that they have an agreement within the ruling majority that relates to "a whole range of issues," and that, in his opinion, that agreement is being respected.
When asked by journalist and show author Petar Komnenić that this decision had been "standing" in the drawer of Parliament Speaker Andrij Mandić for 10 months, and that the MPs of the former Democratic Front (DF) abstained from the meeting of the Security and Defense Committee on May 29, at which the proposal was given the "green light", and asked whether there were any inter-party agreements, Krapović replied that, as far as he knows, no such discussions were held.
"I did not conduct any discussions. The proposal was supported in the committee itself, not by all the majority MPs, and you are right about that... This mission does not include every EU member state, but Montenegro does, and I would say that it will be a significant boost for our European integration. There was practically no vote against," said Krapović.
He said that this is "confirmation of the maturity and understanding of the geopolitical situation of both the ruling majority and the rest of the parliament."
