Montenegro is committed to its European path and good neighborly cooperation, said Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović.

Milatović, as announced by his office, is participating in the Summit of Heads of State and Government within the framework of the South East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) Summit, which is being held in Tirana.

He spoke at the summit's plenary session on the topic "Promoting stability and prosperity through regional cooperation and European integration."

"Today's topic in many ways sums up the essence of Montenegro's perspective on the inextricable link between regional cooperation and integration into the European Union (EU), as well as the key role they play in the transformation of our region," Milatović said.

As he added, in contemporary conditions of instability on the geopolitical scene, such a bilateral approach allows the region to be firmly integrated into the European community of values, and thus make a genuine contribution to strengthening the role and competitiveness of Europe itself.

He said that the ambition of the countries of the region to join the EU in the coming years requires an unwavering regional commitment to implementing the necessary reforms.

Milatović assessed that the rule of law, the fight against corruption, the promotion of human rights, and the strengthening of democratic institutions remain the basis for building more resilient democracies and prosperous societies.

"Likewise, joint infrastructure and projects that connect us will have a decisive and multidimensional impact, thereby stimulating growing economic activity and making our infrastructure a key element of economic and overall security," Milatović added.

He said that "this is therefore the moment to strengthen the political and economic institutions that represent all citizens, and through close cooperation, transform our region into a space of prosperity and opportunity for all our citizens."

The statement states that the SEECP Summit represents the highest political format of regional cooperation among the countries of Southeast Europe, bringing together 13 countries, with the aim of promoting and strengthening good neighborly relations, dialogue, political, security and economic cooperation.
