The Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) parliamentary group is finalizing work on the draft Law on the Prohibition of Fascist, Nazi and Extreme Nationalist Organizations and Their Symbols, the parliamentary group announced.
They said that, next week, they will present a draft legal text, open a public debate, and invite relevant social actors to provide their suggestions in the drafting of the Law, which, they claim, would finally put a stop to the increasingly frequent attempts to falsify the legacy of anti-fascism.
"We express our gratitude for the time and useful suggestions given to the professors of the Faculty of Law of the University of Montenegro, the Association of Lawyers of Montenegro, historians, non-governmental organizations responsible for the protection of human rights and civic education, SUBNOR, as well as to everyone who will contribute during the public debate," the statement of the DPS Parliamentary Group in the Parliament of Montenegro states.
According to them, the goal of the Bill on the Prohibition of Fascist, Nazi and Extreme Nationalist Organizations and Their Symbols is to prevent incitement to hatred and intolerance among citizens, not to create divisions.
"If Montenegro wants to take its place among the civilized states of the European Union, it will have to consistently implement laws that will prohibit the falsification of unambiguously established historical facts, the denial of war crimes and crimes against humanity, the glorification of convicted war criminals, and the disrespect of the achievements of anti-fascism," the statement concludes.
