"The appointment of Brigadier General Miodrag Vuksanović as Chief of the General Staff of the Army of Montenegro is a key step towards necessary and long-awaited reforms in the defense sector," said Defense Minister Dragan Krapović at a ceremony held at the Villa Gorica in Podgorica.
Krapović said that it is not just a personnel change, but the beginning of a new stage, in which systemic reforms, vetting and improving command responsibility are priorities that can no longer be postponed.
He emphasized that he expects the new Chief of General Staff to present a proposal for a command staff that will bring new energy as soon as possible.
"There is no longer any room for compromises in terms of professionalism, responsibility and dedication to the service. With the expertise and courage that General Vuksanović and his team bring, I am certain that we will fulfill what both the army and citizens expect of us," said Krapović, the Ministry of Defense announced.
Vuksanović, it is added, emphasized that there is no greater honor for an officer than to lead the army of his country, and that being at the head of the Army of Montenegro during a time of turbulent geopolitical events represents a personal and professional challenge.
"Precisely because the Montenegrin Army is not numerous, it must be maximally manned, equipped and trained. Its strength lies in the knowledge, skills and dedication of each individual," said Vuksanović.
He pointed out that soldiers have countless times demonstrated their willingness to adequately and competently respond to all challenges, both through participation in international missions, operations and activities, and through assistance to local communities and in crisis situations.
The Chief of the General Staff emphasized that investing in defense is an investment without which it is impossible to respond to identified threats, protect citizens, or strengthen positions among allies.
Vuksanović, as announced, graduated from the Military Academy of the Army in Belgrade, after which his military career began, during which he constantly improved his skills.
On June 3rd of this year, the Defense and Security Council promoted Colonel Miodrag Vuksanović to the rank of Brigadier General and appointed him Chief of the General Staff of the Army of Montenegro.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister for Security, Defense, Fight against Crime and Internal Policy Aleksa Bečić, command staff and representatives of units of the Army of Montenegro, senior management staff of the Ministry of Defense, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps and military attaches accredited in Montenegro.
