In Montenegro, the church and religious communities are separated from the state, and religious issues are regulated in accordance with the standards and positive practices of the European Union (EU), said the Deputy Prime Minister for Education, Science and Relations with Religious Communities, Budimir Aleksić.
As announced by the Government, Aleksić today spoke with the advisor for religious affairs at the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Christophe Pozel, and the French Ambassador, Anne-Marie Masque.
Aleksić, introducing the French delegation to certain issues related to the position of religious communities in Montenegro, emphasized that the latest census showed that Montenegro is one of the most religious countries in Europe.
He reportedly emphasized that the church and religious communities are separated from the state and that religious issues are regulated in accordance with EU standards, that is, in accordance with the most positive practice in the Union.
Aleksić emphasized that in this field it is important to adhere to the principles established by the EU.
Posel said that he is using his visit to Montenegro to get to know the country and its religious diversity, as well as to learn about the mechanism of communication between the Government and religious communities in Montenegro.
He pointed to France's experiences in this field.
"The interlocutors agreed that permanent dialogue between the state and religious communities is necessary and that it is important for the state to foster a specific model of communication with religious communities, as this is an important and sensitive matter," the statement concluded.
