Žabljak Municipal Assembly session was not held again due to lack of quorum

The session of the Žabljak Municipal Assembly (MA) was not held today due to lack of quorum.

The scenario is the same as when the session was postponed on July 3 - councilors from the ruling Democratic Montenegro did not come due to a conflict in the ruling coalition between them and the Durmitor Initiative, and the opposition (DPS, SD) left the hall, not wanting to ensure a quorum for the session.

The President of the Žabljak Municipal Assembly, Ivan Popović, told "Vijesti" that he has scheduled a session of the Assembly collegium for Friday, at which they should agree with the heads of the councilors' clubs on the date of the session.

The government crisis occurred due to a dispute between coalition partners - the Durmitor Initiative (DI) and Democratic Montenegro - over the exercise of power.

The president of the Žabljak Board of Democratic Montenegro and the current vice president of the municipality, Darko Šljivančanin, told "Vijesti" yesterday that this is not a fight for any function, but a principled issue of decentralization of decision-making within local government.

"Democratic Montenegro believes that secretaries and other officials in the municipality must have the autonomy to make decisions within their powers defined by law and statute. It is also crucial that program priorities, investments and projects of importance to the city are not decided by a narrow circle of individuals, but that all relevant government entities participate in the process. Therefore, this is about advocating for a broader democratic decision-making framework, not about personnel positions," said Šljivančanin.

The Mayor of the Municipality of Žabljak, Radoš Žugić (DI), previously said, while appearing on RTCG, that if someone thinks of overthrowing the government in Žabljak, they can only do so with the help of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) and the Social Democrats (SD).
