New Serbian Democracy (NSD) announced today that it strongly condemns today's physical confrontation in Budva.
The statement from the party, led by the Speaker of the Parliament Andrija Mandić, states that they always advocate for peace and dialogue, and that they strongly condemn the physical confrontation in Budva during which the President of the Municipality of Budva, Nikola Jovanović, was injured.
"We indignantly reject the allegations appearing in some media outlets and heard from the mouths of ill-intentioned opposition MPs, who are trying to impute our party's involvement in this event. This attempt to score cheap political points is below any level, not only political, but also human," the NSD statement published on the social network Facebook states.
They are, as stated in the statement, "convinced, like most citizens of Budva, that the background to this conflict is of a personal nature, known only to the Mitrović and Jovanović families, and that it has absolutely nothing to do with political differences, nor with the NSD."
"Such scenes must not happen in our country and we call on everyone to remain calm and refrain from any physical conflicts, giving light assessments, and to allow the competent authorities to do their job and establish the full truth. Ultimately, the leadership of New Serbian Democracy in the previous period was not aware of numerous events in the Municipality of Budva, which the current Mayor of the Municipality of Budva, Nikola Jovanović, was obviously aware of," the NSD statement concluded.
Jovanović was beaten up this morning in Budva.
He told the police that he was attacked by brothers Jovo and Vidak Mitrović and two other people.
