The British Embassy welcomed the cross-party agreement in the Parliament on electoral reforms, saying it was an important step towards strengthening the integrity of the electoral process and citizens' trust in democratic outcomes.
They said that the decision to have at least 40 percent of candidates be women was particularly encouraging, and they hope that this ambition will "translate into a greater representation of women among elected representatives."
"The United Kingdom has long supported Montenegro's efforts to build a more transparent and resilient electoral system. We are grateful for the close cooperation with civil society organizations such as CeMI and CDT, the expert input of international partners, including IFES and NDI, and the constructive role of MPs from the Committee for Comprehensive Electoral Reform," the Instagram post reads.
The embassy said they look forward to continuing cooperation on the full implementation of reforms, stressing that free and fair elections, resistant to foreign malign influence, are the foundation of every democratic society.
